About Me,

Hi, I’m Kim — Welcome to My Corner of the Internet

I’m Korean-Australian, and these days I call Canada home.

My mom lives on her own in Korea — and yes, she’s someone’s mother-in-law too, just like I have my own wonderful in-laws here in Canada, both in their mid-70s. I see my in-laws often, and between us we’ve built so many fun memories and stories over the years. But as they get older, I’ve started noticing something: there are so many stories I’ve never thought to ask about, and so many moments I wish I’d understood a little better while there was still time.

That’s really why this blog exists.

I started it for myself, first and foremost — a way to pay closer attention to the elderly people I love, and to learn what to expect as the years ahead unfold. I’m raising two boys here in Canada, ages 8 and 10, and somewhere between school runs and bedtime stories, I’ve found a bit of time to research and write these thoughts down, calmly, one story at a time.

Everything I share here is something I genuinely want to know myself — and something I hope my in-laws, and my mom back in Korea, will find useful too. If it helps even one family talk a little more openly, or notice something they might have missed, then this blog has done exactly what I hoped it would.

Why This Matters to Me

Our parents and in-laws don’t always tell us when something’s wrong. They worry about being a burden. They brush off aches and sleepless nights as “just part of getting old.” But I’ve learned that asking — really asking, and asking often — is one of the simplest and most meaningful things we can do for the people who raised us.

So if you’re an adult child trying to understand your aging parents a little better, or an in-law yourself wondering how to stay strong, healthy, and independent for as long as possible — I hope you’ll find something here that speaks to you.

A Little Reminder for All the Grandparents Out There

Wherever you are in the world, however old you are — please look after yourself, not just for you, but for the family who loves you. Especially for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adore you to the mountains and back.

50, 60, 70 — these aren’t endings. They’re the start of brand new chapters.

Today, I’ll look after you.

Thanks for stopping by — I’ll be here every week, sometimes more, writing the things I wish I’d known sooner. I hope you’ll stick around too.

With love, Kim
